Feeling strapped for cash in January?

Often after the Christmas period, many of us will be struggling for money following the festivities.

Fortunately, there are many ways to save some cash and all it takes is by doing a simple check on your phone.

Now in his latest weekly email, Martin Lewis has revealed how a three-minute check could help Brits save hundreds.

Posting on his website Money Saving Expert, he said the cost of a Sim card has plummeted in recent years.

He wrote: “If you’re one of the 9 million people out of contract on your mobile, it’s worth doing a quick check to see if you can save.”

He suggests looking into buying a Sim Card over a contract

Martin explained how one of his readers bagged himself a cheap deal when he bought a Sim card deal.

The 49-year-old said: “As David emailed us: ‘Bagged myself a £7/mth Sim deal – a massive saving on the £21.50/mth I was paying.

“‘Many thanks’.” That’s a saving of £170/yr.”

So what you could do is check out the Cheapest Sim tool on the Money Saving Expert website to see how you can start.

Here are Martin’s tips:

  • Want to stick with your network’s signal? You can select that in the options (it’ll show you all firms using that network)
  • Not sure how much data you use? About 3GB/mth is average unless you’re a gamer or video streamer
  • Want a new handset? Use the Cheap Mobile Finder

It’s worth noting you could always use comparison websites to find the best deals too.
