Nationwide customers first began reporting the outage at seven o’clock yesterday morning complaining that they were unable to access and transfer funds, access online banking and pay for goods in shops.

Although the issue has now been rectified, customers have been taking to Twitter to voice their anger as they were left red faced trying to pay for goods or services.

One infuriated user, Kerry Mahoney said: “Yeah great apologising, not great when your card is declined in a shop because the money you are expecting hasn’t gone into your account.

“This is ridiculous and wrong, so let’s risk Covid again to go shopping in busy shops.”
